Asheville Chapter
About
The Formation of the Penn State Alumni Association Asheville Chapter: A Legacy Built on Tradition and Community The Penn State Alumni Association Asheville Chapter, founded in 2023, is built on a deep love for both Western North Carolina’s mountains and the university that unites us all. While alumni, families, and fans of Penn State have called Asheville home for decades, it wasn’t until 2023 that the alumni base came together to form an official chapter—a network of support, pride, and community.

Before that, Penn Staters across WNC gathered informally, but the desire for a more organized community was clear. When the chapter launched, members from the Class of 1959 to 2024 came together for our first event—a casual meetup at a local brewery. The turnout was overwhelming, revealing that the Penn State presence in Asheville had always been strong—it just needed a formal structure to thrive.
The goal was simple: create a vibrant, welcoming space for alumni of all ages and backgrounds to connect, carry the Penn State torch, and give back to the community that embraced us. For some, even those who hadn't attended Penn State, it was an opportunity to join something lasting, building a legacy for future generations.

As the chapter grows, we’re reminded that it’s not just about the university—it’s about the people, places, and memories we create together. And in Asheville, the Nittany Lions are just getting started.
